2002 Dinner

This year saw W.C.C. move its annual dinner to the end of the season rather than before the start of the new season.  This meant that on the 19th October that we returned to The Beacon in Langton Green to celebrate the highs and lows of the 2002 season.  It was somewhat different to our visit their in April when the 1st XI had maintained their division 1 status while the 2nd XI had been relegated whilst the 3rd XI had gained promotion.  This time round the 1st XI got relegated, with the 2nd XI gaining promotion whilst the 3rd XI stayed in Division 7.

During the evening, the usual awards were made for team player of the year, best bowling, batting and catching.  The following were recipients of the 2002 awards.

Batting : Brough Cooper

Bowling : James Harwood

Catching : Terry Jeffery

Saturday 1st XI : Dick Holland

Saturday 2nd XI : Geoff Smith

Saturday 3rd XI :

Sunday 1st XI : Brian Penny

Sunday 2nd XI : Stuart Elkins

The Fred Crowhurst Trophy : Alan Gibson

Clearly the best bat in the club, Brough Cooper receives his trophy. James Harwood the Club Captain once again beat the other bowlers to the coveted bowling award.
Dick Holland the Saturday 1st XI player of the year who got his chance after scoring an excellent ton for the 2nd XI against Hastings. Geoff Smith, an inspiration with Bat, Ball and Voice.  Gave it everything and deservedly won the Saturday 2nd XI player of the year award.
Brian Penny awarded the Sunday 1st XI award in front of his appreciative Captain Andy Dean A shame that Stewy wasn't available on Saturdays as his prodigious ball striking earned him Sunday 2nd XI player of the year.
Andy Dean receiving his Saturday 2nd XI runners up medal with a typical cheeky schoolboy grin.  Throughout the season he took wickets and didn't give his away when it mattered. Bryan Pratt, former club captain and a rock at number three for the Saturday 2nd XI receives his runners up medal
Iain Bell the Saturday 2nd XI Vice Captain, although he had to guest for the 1st XI occasionally he was always about to support his skipper.  Roger "Einstein" Stevens, after getting injured in the first league game he came back to be one of the most consistent performers with the bat.
Jerome Mitchell receiving his Saturday 2nd XI runners up medal,  Mick Smith receiving his Saturday 2nd XI runners up medal
Tom "The Woolster" Woolley  receiving his Saturday 2nd XI runners up medal, unfortunately his covers colleague Mike Tonkin was unable to make it. Special thanks were given to Pete Anderson the Saturday 2nd XI umpire who attended every game !

Alan Gibson, awarded the Fred Crowhurst Trophy for an outstanding contribution to W.C.C.  Alan can regularly be found affectionately speaking the tractor before mowing the outfield, which is one of the many contributions he has made to the club over the years.
